Fertigation Solutions

By: Herrick Kimball

Add a water-soluble fertilizing solution to your bucket-irrigation setup and you have bucket fertigation. There are lots of options for natural and organic fertigation solutions. Here are a few...

Fishy Solutions
.
 .
Soluble ocean-fish concentrates are an excellent fertigation solution, though a bit pricey.  This Article does a good job of explaining the different kinds of fish-based liquid fertilizers.

Liquid Kelp
.
.
Kelp is another word for seaweed and whatever you call it, the stuff is loaded with fertilization that greatly benefits garden plants. Click Here to read more about kelp as a fertilizer. It is also possible to get fertigation solutions that are a combination of fish and kelp.

Compost tea is another excellent solution for bucket fertigation. The modern-day process of "aerobically brewing" a biologically active tea with compost is explained in This Online Article by Elaine Ingham.

Worm Casting Tea
.
 .
Worm castings are an incredibly effective fertilizer and can be aerobically brewed just like compost. This Article provides lots of good information on the subject.

Steeped Manure Tea

Old-fashioned, steeped (or extracted) manure tea may not as biologically diverse and beneficial for plants as the aerobically-brewed compost or worm-casting tea, but extracted tea (as opposed to the aerobically-brewed) worked for Benny's Grandfather, and other gardeners of the past. Click Here for more information about the differences between brewed and extracted fertilizing teas.

Blackstrap Molasses
.

.
Blackstrap molasses is commonly used an ingredient in the aerobic brewing of various fertilizing teas. But molasses by itself can be added to water to make a nourishing fertigation solution.  Click Here for more details.
